Gangtok is Sikkim’s capital and it sure lives up to its name if not more. It is a great place for people who love nature, peace and serenity. Kalimpong on the other is a jewel adorned on the crown of West Bengal. It is often not touched upon after people visit Darjeeling. This package will show you why that is a grave mistake.
Once we pick you up from the NJP station/Bagdogra airport, we head for Gangtok straightaway. The car journey will take around 4 hours and the winding roads along the way are sure to keep you up, clicking. We will cross locations like Sevoke Forest, Coronation Bridge, Kalimpong, etc. Once we reach Gangtok you can check into the hotel and freshen up. We start off towards our first destination, which is Bakthang Falls and move towards Tashi Viewpoint thereafter. At Tashi you will be able to see Mt. Kanchenjunga from a completely different perspective. Then we head on towards Ganesh Tok, a unique temple with breathtaking views. On our way back to the hotel we will visit the all-important Enchey Monastery. This site is said to serve as the protector of the Kanchendzonga and Yabdean deities.
We rise early once again and head out as early as possible to avoid the tourist rush for the best experience. We start off big by going up to 12000ft to see the Tsomgo Changu Lake. This is Gantok’s crown jewel and must not be missed for any reason whatsoever. On our way down we will visit Nathu La Pass, the corridor connecting Sikkim to the Autonomous Tibetan Region. From here we head to show you a natural marvel or you may call it a mystery. The Seven Sisters Waterfall is a unique location as here 7 different waterfalls combine to form one big waterfall. The Namgyal Institute of Tibetology is up next and is a place used to preserve the much prevalent Tibetan Buddhism Culture. The Phodong Monastery was erected in the early 18th century is a very special spot, you’ll see why when we take you there.
We begin today spiritually as we go to see the Baba Harbhajan Singh Temple. This is the spot of the samadhi of Baba Harbhajan Singh. The saint acts a protector of the soldiers posted along the border. The Himalayan Zoological Park is up next. Situated at a height of 1780mts this zoo not only houses unique local animals but also offers a great view of Mt. Khangchendzonga. When we head towards the Rangit river valley we will visit the much-anticipated Reshi Hot Springs. To end the day, we will visit one of the quintessential stupas in Sikkim – Do Drul Chorten – built in 1945 under the guidance of Truslshi and Rimpoche. It is adorned by 108 prayer wheels. We leave for Kalimpong tomorrow
Once we reach Kalimpong and check in to the hotel, you can quickly freshen up as we must be on our way to uncover the beauties of this hidden gem. We begin with Durpin Dara Hill. This hill offers a bird’s eye view of the small town and is also surrounded by beautiful snow-capped Himalayan mountains. You will also be able to see the Teesta River flowing through the valley down below. On this hill we will visit the Zang Dhok Palri Monastery and a very famous botanical garden. Well, the next stop on our list might have you shivering a bit because we will go to the Morgan House. This was a sprawling mansion built by Mr. and Mrs. Morgan way back in the 1930s. It is an excellent example of colonial architecture and according to legends it might be haunted. Then we head on to the next hill on the list which is Deolo Hill. This will again present Kalimpong from a completely different angle. To end the day, we will visit Galingka Bungalow which was also made by the British and it offers majestic views of the Kanchenjunga. We head back to our hotel now and you are free for the rest of the day to shop and enjoy the local offerings
Today we get ready to head back home with SD cards full of brilliant images and minds full of amazing memories. We take you the NJP station/Bagdogra airport. This will be an 80km journey which will take about two and half hours to complete.
