Darjeeling and Gangtok often fall into the same plan of people visiting North Bengal and Sikkim. They are the most important and one cannot miss them. The trip will remain incomplete without the hilly beauty of Darjeeling and cultural treasure Gangtok preserves.
Once you reach NJP Station/Bagdogra Airport we will move towards Darjeeling. The cab/bus will take 3 hours from NJP and the journey up the hills is majestic. Three hours and seventy kilometers of lush green expanses, hills and Mt. Kanchenjunga in the distance. You can check in once we are there and get freshened up for our adventures ahead. We begin by hopping up onto the toy train and exploring the area. This is a one-of-a-kind experience as it exists no where else. On our way we will reach Batasia Loop, the marvel of engineering. Next up we catch the rope way and take you on a journey across the valley offering magnificent views of Mt. Kanchenjunga and if you’re lucky Mt. Everest. After the ropeway we head back to base and rest up for the big day ahead.
We will rise relatively early on day 2 so that we can make it to Tiger hill Viewpoint to witness he most magical sunrise you’ve seen. Getting out early will also allow us to save time owing to the relatively empty roads. From there we head on to the Ghoom Monastery and the much-awaited Tea Gardens. Coming to Darjeeling and not seeing the tea gardens is a crime. Taking in that breath of fresh air laden with the aroma of freshly plucked tea leaves is an experience like no other. The wide expanse of the Tea Gardens is also surrounded by beautiful views. Next, we head towards the Japanese Temple and Peace Pagoda. The rest of the evening if free for you to explore and shop to your heart’s content.
Today we depart for Gangtok, the Capital city of Sikkim. The car journey will take around 4 hours and the winding roads along the way are sure to keep you up clicking. Once we reach Gangtok you can check into the hotel and freshen up. We start off towards our first destination, which is Bakthang Falls and move towards Tashi Viewpoint thereafter. At Tashi you will be able to see Mt. Kanchenjunga from a completely different perspective. Then we head on towards Ganesh Tok, a unique temple with breathtaking views. On our way back to the hotel we will visit the all-important Enchey Monastery. This site is said to serve as the protector of the Kanchendzonga and Yabdean deities.
We rise early once again and head out as early as possible to avoid the tourist rush for the best experience. We start off big by going up to 12000ft to see the Tsomgo Changu Lake. This is Gantok’s crown jewel and must not be missed for any reason whatsoever. On our way down we will visit Nathu La Pass, the corridor connecting Sikkim to the Autonomous Tibetan Region. From here we head to show you a natural marvel or you may call it a mystery. The Seven Sisters Waterfall is a unique location as here 7 different waterfalls combine to form one big waterfall. The Namgyal Institute of Tibetology is up next and is a place used to preserve the much prevalent Tibetan Buddhism Culture. The Phodong Monastery was erected in the early 18th century is a very special spot, you’ll see why when we take you there. As we return to the hotel after the long day, you are free to check boxes off your shopping list for the rest of the evening, as we leave tomorrow
Gangtok and Darjeeling must have offered numerous phot ops and items to fill your showcase back home. More importantly you will be going back home with loads of beautiful memories which will last a lifetime. We say goodbye to Sikkim and head back to NJP station/Bagdogra airport.
