Gangtok, Lachen and Lachung are the three pillars of the Sikkim tourism industry. The snow-capped peaks, frozen lakes, glaciers, temples, monasteries and much more in these places are sure to make you feel like a fairy tale protagonist. Here we go.
Once we pick you up from NJP station/Bagdogra airport we move immediately move towards Gangtok. The car journey will take around 4 hours and the winding roads along the way are sure to keep you up, clicking. Once we reach Gangtok you can check into the hotel and freshen up. We start off towards our first destination, which is Bakthang Falls and move towards Tashi Viewpoint thereafter. At Tashi you will be able to see Mt. Kanchenjunga from a completely different perspective. Then we head on towards Ganesh Tok, a unique temple with breathtaking views. On our way back to the hotel we will visit the all-important Enchey Monastery. This site is said to serve as the protector of the Kanchendzonga and Yabdean deities.
We rise early once again and head out as early as possible to avoid the tourist rush for the best experience. We start off big by going up to 12000ft to see the Tsomgo Changu Lake. This is Gantok’s crown jewel and must not be missed for any reason whatsoever. On our way down we will visit Nathu La Pass, the corridor connecting Sikkim to the Autonomous Tibetan Region. From here we head to show you a natural marvel or you may call it a mystery. The Seven Sisters Waterfall is a unique location as here 7 different waterfalls combine to form one big waterfall. The Namgyal Institute of Tibetology is up next and is a place used to preserve the much prevalent Tibetan Buddhism Culture. The Phodong Monastery was erected in the early 18th century is a very special spot, you’ll see why when we take you there. As we return to the hotel after the long day, you are free to check boxes off your shopping list for the rest of the evening.
Day 3 is when we set forth towards Lachen. The small town is situated in a valley and it forms the base for Gurudongmar Lake and Chopta Valley. Our first stop will be the Lachen Monastery, a true masterpiece brought to life by Tibetan engineering back during the year 1858. We then take to you Mother Nature’s lap when we reach the Shingba Rhododendron Sanctuary. Surrounded by Himalayan peaks all around, this place will let you see more than 40 species of Rhododendron blossom. Next, we move towards a world-renowned spot, 14th actually on the list of most noteworthy lakes in the world. It is none other than the Tso Lhamo Lake. It presents the most stunning backdrop and taking a bad picture here is almost impossible. We then head to our hotel and set you free for the rest of the evening.
Today we leave for Lachung. It will be a rather short taxi ride which takes us across roughly 50kms. Lachung gets its name from the river it sits by. It is a quiet and serene town. Once there you will have to quickly check in and freshen up so that we can move towards our first destination. We begin by taking you to the magical Yumthang Valley. Here you can have a look at the hot springs amid the extreme temperatures while surrounded by snowcapped peaks. Next up we take to you the much talked about Zero Point. This one-of-a-kind location situated at nearly 18000ft will let you see the merging of three rivers after they make their way through the mountains. If you’re lucky you may even see wild yak roaming about in the snow. Donkia – La Pass sits nearby and connects this valley to the Lachen Valley. After all this we head back to the hotel and then you are free to explore to your heart’s content. Be sure to retire early though, tomorrow we see what else Lachung holds for us
Today we set off early and go straight towards Chungthang Valley. Here we will witness the Chungthang town which sits by the intersection of the Lachung and Lachen streams. Covered with snow, this place is like heaven on Earth. According to popular belief this place was graced with the presence of both Guru Nanak and Guru PadmasamBhaba. We then head towards the village of Thangu which sits in Thangu Valley. Here you will truly be able to see the beauty of Mother Nature as she grows without limits. Gurudongmar Lake is next up and it sits up at 5430mts. This glacial lake is one of the main sources of the River Teesta. This lake holds major religious importance as well. On our way back we visit the Green Lake Base Camp. This is the location for the base camp of Mt. Kanchenjunga. We then make our way back home via NJP station/Bagdogra airport.
Gangtok, Lachen and Lachung are the top spots to touch in Sikkim, in no particular order. This package is sure to give you a great mix of peace, thrill and appreciation for nature.
